Welcome to Africa

Nairobi, Kenya

Jambo! It is a quiet morning in my hotel, and I am sitting watching the people and birds go past. I have met a new friend from Edmonton, and, unsure of how to spend our first day on this continent, we decided to do nothing for a while.

The flights over here were smooth and comfortable, and arriving last night I met my airport transfer, who welcomed me to her country. The scenery along drive to the hotel brought to mind a Californian city more than anything else. But this hotel street is tucked away from the main city centre.

I just heard a sound like a Red Tailed Hawk - what makes that sound in Kenya?

This evening we will meet the rest of the group, then tomorrow morning we will head on to Arusha, Tanzania. Imagine the ride will be a little rough - it is a 300km journey expected to take 10 hours. It'll be a good chance to get to know the group.

Day after tomorrow: the Serengeti.
