Memories with Bruce

Last August, Heather, Melissa, Paula, and I went hiking on the Bruce Trail to explore the peninsula and Georgian Bay.  We packed our bags to the brim for a long weekend camping adventure.

With heavy backpacks, we had a beautiful two-hour hike over rocky terrain.  At some points, we needed to boost and hoist each other up with bags pulling the other way.  We passed very few people on our way, all of whom were friendly and admiring the clear blue sky and even bluer water over the many vistas.

We first meet Bruce
We set up our camp in the backcountry site Storm Haven, filtered litres upon litres of water, and cooked a delicious quinoa and vegetables dinner.

The next day we hiked further along the trail and reached the Grotto, where everyone was enjoying the water.

We explored the karsts, swam, did some rock climbing and cliff jumping, and enjoyed a picnic with plenty of cheese Paula was genius enough to bring.

Hiking back to camp, we still couldn't get over the scenery.

The following day, we packed up camp, pumped another pool-full of water, and made our slow journey back towards the car, still revelling in the beauty of our new friend Bruce.

Hollywood was surprisingly colour coordinated!

We were dead exhausted by the time we got to the car, but we excitedly threw our packs in and grabbed the beach necessities for one last swim.  We cooked macaroni and cheese on the beach and were grateful to cool down by the bay.  Seeing these pictures again, I remember what an incredible trip this was.  For some friends, it was a first camping adventure, and I loved being able to watch them experience it all.  With no rain, no bears, plenty of snacks, and the best scenery in possibly all of Ontario, it was a great introduction to backcountry camping.

An intense backpack and crazy backpacker.
