Siem Reap
Still no luck with uploading pictures, hopefully soon, because you have to see Angkor Wat, my descriptions will be inadequate.
These exquisite and huge temples are carved with such detail and built so tall, I cannot fathom how it was done. Looking up in some sections, you just see a cascade of rocks that look so precariously placed, yet they have been there for hundreds of years. Construction started in the early 1000's, with the main temple originally dedicated to Vishnu and later adopted as a Buddhist temple as well. The Ta Prohm temple was by far my favorite, because they did not remove the vegetation as it's been restored. Giant trees sit on top of massive walls, with the roots crawling throughout the rock. Walking around the temple, I was surrounded by the noise of the jungle, with parrots, cicadas, and monkeys all providing the soundtrack.
I'm off to ATV around some rice fields at sunset, and hopefully visit the night market. There are these fabulous pants with elephants on them that everyone is wearing and I must own a pair. Tomorrow we head to Kampong Cham.
