Sihanoukville, Cambodia

We left Phnom Penh on Saturday to head to a very rural village to experience a homestay.  The village opened up two of their houses for our group - these were elevated rooms on stilts accessed by rickity staircases, and we had a slumberparty on mats under mosquito nets.  We played a game like badminton, tossing a feathered birdie around, then played with the kids, singing songs like the Hokie Pokie and Head and Shoulders, most of which they seemed to know already.  Dinner was held at a different site in the village, followed by a traditional dance performance put on by the kids.

The next morning we took a hike to a waterfall before breakfast and leaving for the coast, where we had time for a little beach relaxation in Sihanoukville.  When we arrived Sunday, we wandered down to the water and had an iced coffee in lounge chairs, while Cambodian ladies formed a huddle around us to sell their bracelets or a manicure. It was a funny situation that we could not get out of - they were quite persistent - and some girls came back with new nail polish.  Yesterday we took a boat tour of some neighbouring islands, stopping to do some snorkeling around the coral reefs.  The rest of the day was spent on the beach of another island, where we swam, played volleyball, and relaxed in the sun.

We had fun taking underwater selfies
