Thunder Bay, Ontario to Kenora, Ontario

Just outside of Thunder Bay is Kakabeka Falls and the power generating station.  I originally took the wrong highway out of Thunder Bay, but I wanted to see these falls, so I backtracked, found them eventually, and had a picnic.

Kakabeka Falls

Goodbye EST!  Still in Ontario, I must say I was surprised the time switch was this early.  I figured it would be along the Manitoba border, which I still hadn't reached, so many days in to the road trip.

This drive is still absolutely gorgeous.  Although away from Lake Superior, the road continues to wind around smaller lakes, and I'm starting to see more of the wetlands that cover much of the province.  However, there is a large stretch that does not pass through any town, and needing to wake up but seeing on the GPS that the next coffee was not for 90km, I pulled over into a snowplow turn around and took out my camp stove to make my own.

My last Ontario stop (finally) was Kenora.  I stayed with Heather's cousin and her husband and son, and had a good time meeting some Kenorans.  The town was smaller than I had pictured, but it is quite quaint and lovely.  The big star and symbol of the town is Husky the Muskie, a terrifying representation.  What a beautiful face.
